Meet the Party

One of the first things I did once we got engaged was get a hold of all my ladies scattered all over the world to tell them the happy news. Next on the agenda was a date so I could ask my ladies to be in the wedding party. I pictured my wedding party to consist of the closest friends we have and that included (on my side) a cornucopia of nationalities from my travels overseas.

Well, that's been nearly 3 months ago now and we have a partial wedding party.

First up is my MOH: Laura. She has been my best friend since we left university. She followed me to South Korea and I followed her to New Zealand. I'm really happy to have her be a big part of our wedding, especially since she is one of the reasons I am with Jeff to begin with!

Flower girl: Alice. There's really no competition here for flower girl since she is Jeff's niece, I was around for her birth and am known as Auntie Debs. She gets to walk up the aisle with her favorite boy too!

Best Man: Jeff has asked his brother to be his best man. Doug is Alice's dad and the other half of the reason why Jeff and I met. It is fitting that the two people who were instrumental in our relationship are standing beside us on our wedding day.

Ring-bearer: I'm very happy that Elijah has agreed to be our ring-bearer. He is Laura's son and my nephew. He is the one who gave me my aunt name: Debo. I met him the day he was born and have loved him ever since. How can you not love this face?

So that's our wedding party right now. Most of the ladies I asked to come and support us simply can't make the trip overseas, which is okay. I'm still waiting on two ladies to decide, but even if they can't come, I know they'll be here in spirit.

Did you find it difficult to get a wedding party together when you live in a different country? How has your perception of a wedding party changed?

I had a difficult time getting one together and I did not live out of the country, just out of state.

I love the fact that you're having the two people that brought you together standing up for you: that's really cool, and really symbolic!
